The Duke of Edinburgh International Award is an internationally recognized program whose aim is to challenge participants from the age of 14 to 24 in a wide range of activities that include learning a new skill, physical activity, and service.
The program is completed by hundreds of thousands of students across the world every year and is present in over 240 countries including Lebanon for the first time ever!
At the end of each of the three incrementally harder levels (Bronze, Silver, and Gold), all participants must complete an Adventurous Journey. The Adventurous Journey, or AJ as it is commonly referred to, is a hiking/camping trip of at least 10 km (for the Bronze level) that the participants must undertake alone. Skills required to undertake the Adventurous Journey include learning leadership skills, navigating with a map and compass, cooking for themselves, setting up the camp, working in a group, and learning first aid among many other.
Eastwood International School is proud to be the first school in Lebanon
to offer this program and we currently have 7 participants working towards completing their first level.
